Bone growth

  •   – Consists of lamellae; formed by collagen fibers ,gelatinous matrix and ca salts
  •   – Spaces between adjoining lamellae called as lacunae ;contains osteocytes which are connected to each other by canaliculi
  •   –  lamellae are stacked over each other to form trabeculae
  •   – In spony bone marrow spaces occupy a greater area than compact bone
    • Intramembranous bone formation:
      • Occurs in areas exposed to tension
      • It differs from endochondral bone formation by formation of bone directly from mesenchymal tissue
      • Seen in areas like
        • Cranial vault
        • Maxilla
        • Mandible except condylar cartilage
