Late 1950’s lateral cephalograms demonstrated restrained effects on maxillary growth.
However, there was resistance by Americans who believed that it was mandibular growth which was responsible for success of HG.
Till then only cervical HG was commonly used (Kloehn HG).
Then the Americans used Combi and High pull HG to achieve success even with a not so good growing mandible.
