LABORATORY DIAGNOSIS OF BACTERIA in 5 parts

  • Actinomycetes –they are branching filamentous bacteria.
  • So named because of their resemblance with sun rays when seen in tissue leisons.
  • Mycoplasms –they are bacteria that are cell wall deficient and hence do not possess a stable morphology.
  • They occur as round or oval bodies and as a interlacing filaments under normal conditions.
  • When the cell wall synthesis becomes defective as in presence of drugs ,they lose their distinctive shape.
  • MICROSCOPIC METHOD-
  • Microscopic examination :It helps to find out whether  the bacteria is cocci, bacilli, vibrio, spirillum or spirochaete .
