  • Bite considerations in Stage.I of Begg.
  • Begg technique has laid out tooth movements in orderly stages.
  • Opening of the bite and reduction of the overjet are aims of Stage.I
  • However  specific consideration of which should precede the other in the myriad no. of malocclusions encountered in daily practice has NOT  been laid down.
  • Geometric effect of MM angle
  • Increase of the MM angle tends to move the pogonion back, increase the infra nasal height and gives a retrusive appearance.
  • Reducing the MM angle, or maintaining it has the effect of moving pogonion forward.  Class.II elastics tend to open the MM angle and moves pogonion back.
  • Premolar extractions tend to decrease the MM angle and moves pogonion forward.
