Occlusion Basics

  • NORMAL OCCLUSION-in orthodontics is
  • The mesiobuccal cusp of the maxillary 1st
  • molar should occlude in the mesiobuccal
  • groove of the mandibular 1st molar.
  • If this molar relationship existed and the teeth were arranged on a smoothly curving line of occlusion normal occlusion would result
  • THE LINE OF OCCLUSION-is a smooth curve passing through the central fossa of each upper molar and across the cingulum of the upper canine and incisor teeth.
  •       The same line runs along the buccal cusps and incisal edges of the lower teeth, thus specifying occlusal as well as interarch relationships once the molar relation is established.
